Podcasts are a compact-sized audio file of juicy content that is online and ready to be consumed by anyone who is interested. Like radio shows, podcasts are a great way to keep up with Popular Culture such as movies, music, TV shows, politics, business, race, sexuality, and so many other categories. I discovered podcasts through an app called Soundcloud three years ago and I have remained a fan ever since. However, because there are thousands of them it can be really tricky discovering the ones worth listening to especially if you have particular tastes and preferences.
With this list, I will recommend all of my favourites podcasts; all ranging from dystopian series to couple/relationship struggles to race to femininity to true life stories about self-discovery. These podcasts have filled my mental capacity to the brim over the years and like a good student, I have followed every episode diligently. There are informative, enlightening, and most importantly entertaining. I know it is a Sunday and you definitely have other emails to check, let’s get right into it.
THIRST AID KIT
Thirst Aid Kit has been on the TIMES list of ‘’best podcast’’ and this is because it is literally the ideal podcast for anyone who needs a place to hear two straight black women break down the reason why we all collectively love these American male actors. it is about desire and speaking boldly about the things you admire about actors not just because of how they look or how they talk but because of their performances onscreen. Each episode focuses on a particular actor and Bim Adewumi and Nichole Perkins share their thirst confession for a certain actor with occasional guest hosts. The reason why it is on this list is that it is not about the objectivation of men, they shed a bigger spotlight on these men’s talents, their achievement onscreen and offscreen. Curiosity made me listen to an episode on Chris Evans ‘’Captain America’’, I stayed because I realized I enjoy content like this. You should try it too!

DEAD ASS
This podcast is for anyone who enjoys a millennial relationship/marriage related content. It is hosted by one of my favourite couples on Instagram Devale & Khadeen Ellis, they own a web comedy series based on their lives and the lives of their three lovely boys. My favourite episode yet is ‘’Life ain’t the same after 3 whole boys’’ because of its honesty and vulnerability about how children changed the dynamics of their relationship and how they manage to navigate it and still make it seem effortless especially in this age of social media. Check it out!

PASSING THROUGH
Nneka Julia is a storyteller I admired so much on Instagram and when she released ‘’Passing Through’’ I could not get enough of it. It was original and clear-cut. She created her own mode of storytelling by sharing her personal journey by voyaging through different cities and the lessons she learnt from her experiences in each place. The first season will captivate your heart and if you end up getting obsessed with this podcast like I did, please tweet about it and tag ‘’PASSING THROUGH’’ or the host herself @nnekajulia.

THE NOD
This was recommended to me by a friend two years ago because I needed a podcast that dealt with issues concerning race and being black in America. They bring us stories, moments, and trivia that reflect the beauty & culture of black people in America. If for anything this podcast served as both an entertainment and education. The hosts have since moved on to start their own web show on Quibi but all episodes of the podcast are still available for listening.

BLACKOUT
Are you a sucker for dystopian series with a top-notch production quality? Blackout is the podcast you should listen to, if not for anything but for Rami Malek (Robot Man) who stars in this apocalyptic thriller as a small-town radio DJ fighting to protect his family and community after the power cuts out across the nation leaving them isolated and causing civilization to crumble. Each episode drives the story to a cliff-hanger and leaves you wanting more. This podcast is for story lovers, trust me you will enjoy the ride along.
THE GIRL COVEN PODCAST
The Girl Coven is the only Nigerian Podcast that makes it to this list and it is because I admire this podcast and all that it stands for. It is hosted by Enkay ‘’THE BIG CHIEF’’ who is a plus-sized model, feminist and yoga enthusiast who lives in Lagos, Nigeria. She uses this podcast to enlighten her audience about the importance of building a community for women to feel safe and feel proud of their existence. Each episode discusses interesting topics featuring women who explain identity, sex, motherhood, consent, beauty, self-care and so many other important issues.
CHERNOBYL
This one is for Movie Nerds like me. Chernobyl was a limited TV series that aired in 2019 on HBO and took home major awards. It was worth it and for the sake of you who still hasn’t seen the series, I won’t spoil it other than tell you how much you are missing out on great TV. However, The Chernobyl Podcast is a compelling behind-the-scenes look at the series featuring the series creator himself Craig Mason who gives a breakdown analysis on each episode, the background of the series as a whole, and important true-life information about the ghost town Chernobyl itself which still exists by the way.

LISTEN TO MY OWN PODCAST
BLACKPROPOD is on a break for now because I can’t commit to a podcast without a functioning studio but you can listen to my archived episodes.
Do you really listen to all of them? How do you keep up? I follow just two and it feels like such a task 😅
Thanks for this miss☺️💞
