What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of cake? I will give you a second, and I will not even try to guess. You can keep your answer to yourself because I do not even want to know. You want to know why?
I hate cakes! Ugh… I hate it when everyone fawns over them. I hate it when people cannot mark their birthdays without adding cake to the equation. I hate that I hate cakes; I hear they are delicious. But the thing is I hate their sweet sugary taste, I hate when people say they eat cake for lunch, why?! I hate it when I tell someone I do not like cake and they look at me like I just said ‘’I kill puppies for sport’’. So you get the picture – I just really hate cakes.
If you hate me for hating cake, I can understand if you stop reading my email right now. But I want the rest of you to know where I stand on this issue and what prompted this odd post and it is because of the internet. It was not until last week that I realized how much I hate cakes so much. Everywhere you turn to there is a video of some slippers being sliced into two and turning out to be a cake. I mean, what is that all about? I do not need that kind of content on my timeline. But I keep getting them because everyone else is also obsessed with those videos to a borderline obsession to the point where it made me wonder if I am actually a cake. I mean, can you imagine the irony. Me, someone who opening hates cake is suddenly thinking if I am a cake. It is like everything is different now, people are dying from a deadly virus called COVID19, Nigerian first female war pilot died from a tragic accident yesterday, a CEO was hacked into pieces in his expensive home in the US, there is a war waging on twitter about what a Pastor said about his marriage, another Pastor believes online church services are not scriptural, our country is literally in shambles and we are all hanging by a thread before the table breaks and we all relocate to Canada or something.
But we are not going to focus our energy on all that negative stuff, we are only going to ask those who made this cake videos go viral to stop and prevent a few of us from slicing our arm with a knife to find out if we are actually a red velvet cake!
It is a good form of escapism; one that we really really need right now. Or what do you think?
